Food Sharing during the Covid 19 Pandemic

1South Africa’s emergency declaration and lockdown caused a lot of difficulties in society on March 2020. Those who lost their jobs, those who were finding jobs due to the lockdown. Many foreign workers, especially those who came from South Africa as refugees, were even more difficult. Also, seeing that pastors of the church were in financial difficulties, and kindergarten teachers were also suffering from lack of financial resources, African leadership found families struggling and shared food that could last a month.

Food was delivered to residents of Guguletu, Yanga, and Philippi, and Khayelitsha, Cape Town, and to townships and farmer workers in Paarl, and to Hawston and several townships in Overland. Far away, through African leadership missionaries in East London, we shared food with families who were struggling. In total, more than 4000 households could share the food.

Process of selecting people who need food sharing;

  1. Single parents
  2. The person who has recently lost his or her job
  3. a pastor who is dependent on the church
  4. Foreign workers and refugees
  5. Those recognized by the community leadership

African Leadership Conference Centre Ministry

2We did not have a camp because of Covid 19 Pandemic. Before Corona, two short-term teams used as accommodation, conducted a teacher camp of children’s church and a national conference. All
planned camps and conferences were cancelled.

ALCC repair :

Buchu farming :

School Uniform Sharing

3School Uniforms were divided before the start of Corvid 19 national lockdown in 2020.; Uniforms (shirts, trousers, skirts, socks, and shoes) were purchased and delivered to 100 youths in Thabo Mbeki area, 50 in Philippe area, 100 in BM section, and 100 youths through children’s church kids.

In January 2021, a fire broke out in Khaylitsha burning 53 households, and 350 people without house. With many other helps, African leadership delivered uniforms to the children and youths in fire victims.

Theological Seminary in Khayelitsha (Africa Bible college)

4Face-to-face classes were suspended in March 2020 with a national lockdown because of Covid 19 Pandemic. However, with the efforts of the seminary faculty members, the lecture was recorded through YouTube so that they could study online, and lectures were also conducted directly through zoom. In September 2020, when the Corvid 19 situation was a little better, we started a selective face-to-face classes. By following the health protection rules of Covid 19, students were allowed to keep social distances and prepared sanitizer and operated face-to-face classes.

In February 2021, the school was reopened and currently first and second year classes are in progress.

  1. The library was expanded with the donation
    of books, and the library was well organized
    due to the efforts of professors.
  2. In 2020, the seminary was painted with the efforts of seminary students and faculty members to create a better environment.
  3. Short-term mission trip for seminary students planned for 2020 has been canceled.

Settle light local Bible training Classes

5In early 2020 there were 43 local theology classes. However, the class was suspended due to Corona virus but gradually opened the classes after September 2020. This class is a two-year course and student studies four hours a week. Lectures are being held on weekends to fill the class hours for graduation. Four local theology classes completed all courses and had graduation ceremonies 2020/2021.

‘We are family’ Campaign

6Covid 19 Pandemic, there have been many forms of family problems in South Africa’s townships. In particular, the national lockdown brought together a small space for all family members. Family members in small houses spend time together from morning to evening, increasing domestic violence and children are suffering from many difficulties. Also, parents who have a lot of time abuse or beating their children with alcohol and drugs.

  • Among these situations, a pamphlet was produced with 10 good family appearances and 10 suggestions for better families.
  • Translated into 34 languages in 2020.
  • 36,000 Xosa/English copies were printed and 16,000 copies were attached to 16,000 families.
  • 10,000 Afrikaans/English copies were printed, 6,000 copies were distributed to families.
  • 5,000 copies in Ethiopian were printed and delivered.
  • 10,000 calendars were printed and delivered. (2000 to Namaqualand, 1000 to Durban, 2000 to Guguletu, 500 to Transkai, 2000 to East London, 2000 to pastors, and Local Theology Classes)

Kindergarten/Daycare ministry

7There are currently 36 kindergartens built, of which 12 have been provided with food.

  1. Woo-am daycare center, which was built in February 2020, was delayed to complete building due to Corona Pandemic. But from January 2021 construction was in process to finish floor tiles
    and ceiling. So opened in February 2021.
  2. In 2020, most daycare centers were closed in accordance with the national lockdown and the Ministry of Education policy. In 2021, most daycare centers open the kindergartens and teaching the children.
  3. In 2020, Food Sharing provided food to 12 daycare centers during the two-month period of February and March. In 2021 we has provided food to 10 daycare centers.

Children s Church

8With the start of Corona Pandemic in 2020, children’s churches have been suspended because children are banned from gathering. In this situation, Bible study pamphlets for children were produced and delivered to children’s church children. Bible study pamphlets were designed to be studied with parents, After studying, the children submit it to local teachers. With the start of 2021, the children’s church has been restarted.

Children’s churches are under way in 2021 with the dedication of teachers to 30 regions. Children’s church camps have not been held due to the Corona Pandemic.

9Father School

The father’s school planned in 2020 is postponed and difficult to do in 2021, We have a plan to gather a small number of people in each region in Zoom.

Mother School

Plan in 2020 was cancelled, and now the staff are waiting for the situation with prayers.

Transkai Farming Project

It is suspended by Corona Pandemic.

‘Special Me’ Program

The program is a Bible education and character education program for kindergarten kids. This program is currently being held in 4 kindergartens, 7 classrooms. It is a program that applies the Bible to children’s lives by dancing, reading storybooks, and craft activities. we are also teaching children characters of God. This program gives them a taste of God’s characters. They learn God’s personality through storybooks, songs, and dances, and learn how to live, act, speak with their friends and parents at home.

Translation and Printing of the Madagascar Bible

10In 2020, the new Old Testament translation was completed in the Betsileo language. First, 1000 copies were printed and sent to Madagascar, and about 4.3 Million people saw the Bible in their own language. In 2021, 10,000 bibles were printed and sent to Madagascar, where the churches of Madagascar became more active and devoted to evangelism and nurturing. Bibles are currently being translated into three different languages.

Morendava High School in Madagascar

11Samsung Primary School was built in 2016 in the Morendava area and the middle school was completed in 2018. High school construction began in 2020 and was completed in 2021. Now, students can graduate from elementary school in Morendava area and go to middle school and high school in the same area.

New Textbook Printing

12The BLTC Biblical Leadership Training Center introduced a new pastoral training program with the partnership leadership international. After serious commitment with leadership international
for the past two years, BLTC was completed in 2020 by combining the relationship of various institutions at the leadership international. These textbooks were printed in Korea and arrived in
South Africa at May 2021. These textbooks consists of 20 books (10 biblical study books, and 10 leadership books), 400 hours of study, which could be of great help to untrained pastors and
church leaders.

  1. BLTC is an English book, currently translating into Madagascar’s Malagasy language and is aimed at the end of 2021.
  2. There are more than half of the French-speaking countries in Africa, and BLTC is being translated into French as needed, and it is aiming for early 2022.

Lesotho Pastoral Training

13Due to the poor church environment and lack of pastoral training, we have been in charge of pastoral training for the past 10 years with the book ‘Bible Training Center for pastor’.

Since 2018, we have trained the police and have developed the police chaplain system first. During the training of police chaplain in 2020, prison chaplain for the guards has been joined to study together. But in 2021, prison chaplain wants to have separate class.

Now police and prison guard are receiving pastoral care through chaplain. We had a second graduation ceremony in 2021, and during the training course, they were wearing a police uniform and evangelizing communities. Now, we hope that Lesotho police can lead not only security but also the people to faith and realize justice.

Shalom Orphanage in Madagascar

14The Shalom orphanage now has 20 children (10 boys and 10 girls). Everyone is attending a public school. In 2021, Shalom Orphanage completed its registration as a non-profit organization. The
good news is that Shalom Orphanage is moving to the countryside. In the meantime, there have been no buildings of their own. However, We received 2 hectares of land thanks to the dedication of a church member. The location is close to the capital city, about 30 minutes from the capital city of Antananarivo Airport.

Now, along with the registration of the Shalom orphanage as a non profit organization, we are seeking sponsors to build the orphanage this year.

Madagascar Hospital

15The hospital, which opened in 2018, is operating on its own due to the dedication of five doctors, nurses and administrative staff. It is always difficult because 20 wards are always full. In particular, many patients come because of the Corona Pandemic, but many heart-breaking happened because the patients could not be accepted. and it was not easy for a hospital to pay a rent for
a building every month for a long-term. By the grace of God, however, we bought a hospital site this year. Now that the site has been purchased, we are looking for sponsors for new construction.
We also received a donation of an Ambulance in May 2021.

Eswatini Ministry

16Face-to-face ministry, which has been done so far, has been difficult due to Corona pandemic. Kindergarten children’s ministry, meal sharing, and children’s churches have yet to be revitalized, but during the national lockdown of the country, we have visited villages to share meals and do children’s church. But there is new ministry development. most houses are made of clay bricks.

During the rainy season, the bricks melted and the house collapsed. So, we started building houses for people who really needed. We are building houses for the elderly people with only children living together. We are currently building seven houses.

Overstrand Street Food Sharing

We has been involved to feed street people in Hermanus, Overstand. Around 30 homeless people were attending worship service before food distribution. But during Covid 19 pandemic, we could not give food and no worship. But 2021 we has opened again to give food. Now in winter season, we also give blankets to each one of them.
