Praise the Lord!
I would like to start with ‘thank you.’ To all those who are walking with us in prayer and support in these uncertain times filled with fear and pain – thank you. Learning from the rest of the world dealing with the corona pandemic, South Africa has implemented a whole country lock down that has now lasted 4 weeks. During this time, to support those who are unable to earn we have started sharing food to those most in need. Thanks to your support
we have been able to help a total of 864 families spread throughout Cape Town. Although a small amount of food that is not nearly enough to last them the full 3 weeks the sighs of relief and the tears of thanks shed in receiving this small gift has been reason enough to sing praise before the Lord.
We have been finding families most in need, but unable to get government assistance, through our children’s church teachers. These have included child-run households, families who used to work odd jobs and lived on a day to day basis, those families who now have no livelihood due to the employers fear of the corona spread (mostly nannies and in house helpers), and those refugees from upper Africa who used to sustain life by day to day earnings… To these families your support has been life-sustaining and we are all grateful. Thank you.
But despite progress being made, the virus will spread and we do not foresee the decline of the pandemic before august/September and therefore are looking to continue to food sharing till the point where life has found a new balance again and the country no longer in a state of emergency. This means food supplies for another 5-6 months will be required to help those in desperate need. The current food parcels being given out consists of 7kg potato sack, 5kg rice, 2L oil, 5 kg maize flour, flour 10kg, sanitary pads, soap and sanitizers that comes to a cost of about $20. This food parcel will likely sustain a family for about 3 weeks. We ask for continued prayer and support to help sustain these families.
Please pray with us:
- In townships as khayelitsha throughout South Africa where overcrowding is the norm. Isolation and social distancing is not possible making the areas a perfect epicenter for virus spread. Further with the prevelance of HIV/AIDS and TB in the country, there is much concerns surrounding the impact corona will have on this community. Please pray that more souls will return to the Lord, that in these times of financial and physical difficulties they will find hope and peace in the Lord.
- Please pray that the Lord will provide continued support for the food sharing ministry to sustain those most in need. Thank you. God bless you. The Lord is in Control.
