Eswatini Jesus Village

1The 4th missionary team visited the Eswatini Jesus Village. They were the youth from Cape Town Church. These students are already living in South Africa, which made it easier to serve here for 6 days.

Even though they were from Cape Town, it was not an easy travel to this village. After almost 12 hours, they arrived in the late hours of the night. The first day after the students arrived, they walked the streets with the children in the village and visited their schools. We were worried that not a lot of children would attend the bible school that took place for 3 days as it was school mid-term. There were however 280 children on the first day, 310 on the second day and 350 students on the last day of bible school.

The young children were happy to enjoy their time with the mission team and they participated in different activities such as games and worship, praise and bible study. It was another grateful experience to see the children smiling and laughing in the presence of God.

On the third day, we also played a soccer match and enjoyed time together. Every evening was a time of worship which was filled with God’s grace. The second evening’s message was about God’s dream and vision and on the day, we were given the message of being filled with the Holy Spirit. Through this time, we were able to see God extending His Kingdom and vision throughout the village and experienced how he works through the people who believe in him. We are happy missionaries to see the smiles on the children whom God loves.

Eswatini Jesus Village: Winter Vacation Program

2The winter vacation has started for the students. We were worried whether it would be possible to have winter classes for students while the missionaries serving in this ministry were away in Korea.

We have been watching the students and teachers closely and put the winter program classes in God’s hands. Thanks to our Lord, the Winter Vacation Program stared with no problems.

There are 13 students learning computer skills on Mondays and Wednesdays, and there are 16 students studying the Bible on Tuesdays. We also have 9-10 hours of free time to read books. We pray together, read the Bible together and have special programs throughout the week. Thursdays are classes for math and art. Fridays, the students learn reading and comprehending, and also hold a children’s service on this day.

God is the Lord of all and the Lord of Eswatini. This is why we can place everything in his hands. We trust that coordinators and teachers will be blessed and filled with the Holy Spirit so that they can continue serving.

There is still a lot to do at Eswatini! We have to complete the water-well construction and the construction of the bridge. Jehovah Jireh!

South Africa Helderstroom Prison

3We are serving and doing ministry in the prison of Helderstroom from 2012. The prison is divided into maximum and minimum, the former being a prison for people with long prison sentence and minimum being for those with a shorter sentence. There are approximately 1000 men in each of these prisons.

We are currently teaching around 30 men from these prisons every Wednesday. God works through some of these people who are leaders of worship services.

Those who have received God are working as missionaries in the prison to share God’s word to those inside with them. 70 of those in the prison attend our services every Sunday.

We sometimes receive messages from those who have been released from the prisons and they greet us with thankful news that they are still attending a church after their release. We can only thank God for working in the lives of those in the prisons. We pray that these men will be able to take steps closer to God.

Food Serving Ministry: Food Trailer

4The cold winters in Africa bring devastating times for the poor. Most of the people have to stop farming and start working as a part-timer to earn money for the day. There are many people that wait in line to receive food that we serve.

A year ago, we continued to pray for a food truck which would be transportable to different places. God listened to our prayers and granted us with a trailer which is like a moving kitchen. It is equipped with everything we need to cook and it allows us to visit different areas to serve. Every time we set out to serve food, around 200 stomachs are filled and with it, their hearts are also warmed with God’s love.

King’s Kids

5From January to June, children have been learning about the following topics: “God the Creator of the Earth”, “God has called me just as he called the animals in the arc”, “I am special”, “Jesus’ death and resurrection”, and “Jesus who cleans me from my sins”.

From July, we have taught the “Get to Know Jesus” series after realizing that it is important for children to know Jesus more. The first lesson was about “Jesus the Shepherd” who does not leave the one sheep behind, the one who protects and cares for us. We did activities where we made small sheep with wool.

We pray that the young children would come to realize that God is like the young Lamb who was slain for us, and that Jesus is the shepherd who will lie us in green pastures.

Prayer Requests for Women’s Ministry

  1. 6We are planning a Mother School in November and a School for Lecturers in September. Please pray that we will have strong trained lecturers through the school.
  2. The Happy Mom (Women’s Ministry) manual is almost in completion. We are on the last stages of designing and printing, which is to take place in August. Please pray that the manual will be completed in God’s hands. Wherever this is used, we hope that mothers would be restored and that they will be used as workers for God’s Kingdom.

Transkei Missionary Team from Germany

7 A team from Germany arrived to help with the farming project in Transkei. This team is made up of two young adults and a couple with their children. They stayed for 10 days and shared God’s word with the children in Transkei. They helped with Sunday School and helped sort out the materials needed for the farming project.

Looking at those serving and those being served, we are sure that God is working in this place and that he continues to hold our hands. We thank God for those who come to serve and who glorify him with their hearts and passion.

Transkei United Services, Sunday School and Communion

Some children visit Sylvia’s tuckshop to buy some sweets. As Sylvia tells the children to hurry to the church service, the children hurry out of the shop. After lunch, Sylvia’s family and the elders of the community take their bags to the church where the service will be held. As they arrive, in the distance is the children who we met at the tuckshop. It takes 3 hours to walk from the tuck-shop to the church, but the children are smiling.

Lord, please receive the praise of these children with joy.

Leadership Program

8After starting this program, there were some great transformations and growths within the year. We received great joy within the 5 months of this Leadership Program. The students that attended are as passionate as us missionaries and we hope that this program ends well this year.

The curriculum is set so that the students would be able to understand and follow every part of the program. We are praying that all the students would be able to complete the program at the end of the year.

  • Leadership Program at Stanford: They are a group of passionate and active students. We pray that every – one would give their all to the Lord.
  • Leadership Program at Gaansbaai: There are students here that serve to become good leaders.

  • For 2 projectors that we need to use in class -For our vision in a new campus in 2020.

Africa Theological College

9 Of the 7 terms in the year, ATC is on its 5th term. Every year, we had difficult situations in those who were studying and many had to stop from studying. Thankfully, this year, there are not so many. We are continuing to pray. We are doing lectures in different subjects: First Years are studying Church Ministry and Administration every Mondays and Thursdays with Missionary In Sik Kim and Bible gospel with Pastor Swella.

Second Years study Spiritual Leadership with Paster Karlyle and chapter John from the Bible with Pastor Mphumezi. From May of this year, we are holding classes at a college in a different area. Every Tuesday, we have Old Testament lectures and New Testament lectures on Thursdays.

Partnership with South Africa SCO

10We are planning to teach students at universities and school Christian societies about cults and wrong Christian faith which is becoming a problem in South Africa. We plan to teach student for a year so that they can stand strong in the right faith that is taught in the Bible. There was a revival camp (SAM) for youth in Uganda from August 20-24. Some of us missionaries went to this camp to learn and prepare for a possible revival camp in South Africa and Madagascar.

Fathers School

We held a Fathers School at the African Leadership Center for 3 days from 30th August to 1st September. The main members of this Fathers School was students that study theology.

Please pray that the lecturers will be blessed and that all 26 students and the 10 staff will stand as strong fathers and men in the household which is a reflection of God’s Kingdom. Some of us missionaries went to this camp to learn and prepare for a possible revival camp in South Africa and Madagascar.

Hand bell Music Ministry

11We have started a hand-bell music class with 50 grade 4 students at Duncan Village Primary School in East London.

There are no music classes in many of the schools in rural areas so it is special for the children to experience music classes. It is very difficult, but the students try their best to continue practicing. We pray that the students would thank God who has allowed us joy and harmony in music.

We pray that there would come a day when the students praise the lord with the bells that they are learning.

South Africa East London aChildren’s Ministry

12We are Special Character Education

We are teaching around 200 students the knowledge about how to be a person of good character. We talk about how we would be able to love each other more and how we would overcome difficult times.

We are in a time when we need lots of wisdom. We should continue to think about how we would expand God’s Kingdom. We pray that God will give the wisdom to the students and children so that they will continue to love one another.

We are Special Children’s Bible School

13 This term, we learned about the topic “Who is God?” at Bushitemba Center. The children are beginning to understand who God is through the characters in the bible.

Thank you Lord! Please make these children grow in your image.

After the service, we teach the bible through art classes to around 10 students who work and study hard. We are planning to make a class for these children and have an exhibition with the artworks they create. Please pray that the children will learn to love art and God more.

East London Special Me Children’s Ministry

Spring has come at Livingwater Crche in Scenery Park, East London. Many children showed up after the cold has gone. We thank God for healing those who were sick and for allowing them to praise our Lord. We made beautifully colored pinwheels. Please pray that more youngsters at the crche will praise God.

Teacher Nofikile is not attending the crche due to a bad flu. Please pray for God to heal her and get rid of all sicknesses at the crche.

Children’s Church Winter Bible School

14 Last month was a month of blessings and grace. The weather is not great, but we are still able to experience God’ s presence. We believe that God exists here and He was with us until the end of the Bible Camp.

There are around 200 children that gather from Tuesday to Friday to learn about God. This year, we had this Winter Bible School in 9 different places and this allowed 1800 children to come together. We had help of 40 teachers (mostly teenagers) and had fellowship, messages and prayers. On the last day, the teachers came together in the streets of Khayelitsha and shared a meal for their hard work.

The teachers help with all their heart for over 3 weeks. They gave all their school vacations to volunteer at the Bible School. God allowed all the teachers to come together and help each other.

Pray that all the young teachers will be able to overcome everything through the love of God and that they will grow to become strong warriors of God ’ s Kingdom who hold a vision in Him. These teachers are the hope of Khayelitsha.

Reconstruction of a preschool

15 It is always raining season in the winter. There are heavy rainfalls in the moths of June, July and August and when it rains, the preschools are always wet as the rain leaks through the roof. The Monwabisi preschool was built in 2005. The building is old and the roof is made of tin/can which means that the rain leaks through the roof.

The Canada Vancouver team helped with the reconstruction of the preschool. We were able to change the roof and change all of the old to new. The team members did not have experience with building construction and have never held a hammer before, but they showed passion and loyalty to the work they were given. Coordinator Lucky also helped change the roof.

The teachers and children were so glad after the reconstruction. We were also happy to see the joyous faces. There is still quite a lot of work to do. The walls and window frames have to be changed as they are decaying due to the rain.

We are praying for more professional help (for a carpenter) who will be able to help with the reconstruction in many other preschools. Please pray with us! and we also work together for community neighbors.

Mission Teams

16 There was a mission team from Sam Sung Church in Vancouver and Toronto Korean Presbyterian Church in Canada. We are blessed to receive mission teams. God shows himself through these teams. This time, we were able to see His heart reaching out to each children that the mission teams met and we also experienced His presence through the work of prayer and while in preparation for the ministry.

God was with us when the children jumped in joy as they sang songs of praise, He was with us while in the fellowships in the prisons and in the construction missions. God also revealed Himself through street missions, as we visited each home to share God’s word.

As we blessed the teams and sent them again as missionaries back to their homes, we saw God as healer and provider who is with us as we try to build His Kingdom.

Thank you God, for allowing us to see you through the mission teams! Bless those who have shown their love from Vancouver and Toronto.

Sharing Blankets

17 Every winter, every rainfall season, God makes us pray for warmth in His protection. Leaders in Monwabisi called asking for prayer for the elders and disabled in the village. Monwabisi is an area with around 7,000 homes. The leaders also asked for blankets to keep warm in the winter.

We were able to share 80 blankets with the 80 names that the leaders sent us. We know that the leaders sent us only a small number of names from the many people who will still be needing warm blankets.

We can only pray that God will pour His love over everyone. The leaders would also have wanted these blankets, but their names are not on the list. We pray that God will bless the leaders.

Children Church

19Pastor Mphundo is the children church leader. He is now in his forties and has been serving in African Leadership for over 15 years. He is working in the primary school character education, children church, bible school and also takes care of the children teachers’ and emerging leadership camp.

The primary school character education teaches grades 4-6 about how to build a strong and healthy character in Jesus. Currently, there are 2 primary schools that are being led by Intombi and Zinthle. They are teaching about keeping time, having a warm heart, being patient, sharing and acknowledging and respecting others. Children church is being led in 30 different areas.

We also have bible school for a week during spring vacation and autumn vacation, 3 weeks during winter vacation. Around 40 teachers and 2,000 children attend the bible school. They also teach the gospel, love and sharing through a camp that extends over 2 nights.

Please pray for pastor Mphundo who is leading this camp, so that he would be able to continue doing God’s work and so that all of the students and teachers would vision God’s Kingdom.
